CREATING REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

Simulated fire at FireWare headquarters

How to become acquainted with the emergency services from the municipality your company will move to? Stage a beautiful blaze at your new business premises! During their renovation activities in 2013, FireWare saw the opportunity to lit their new quarters. Now, that’s a way to break the ice!

A very warm welcome

On the day of relocation, FireWare suited action to the word and staged a large-scale fire at their new accommodation. Large-scale fires considerably differ from small-scale fire trainings. Therefore, not only equipment, but knowledge and experience are needed for staging such huge challenge for all participants in almost every location. Safety Region Noord-Holland Noord took the challenge and were enabled to train both mono-disciplinary as multi-disciplinary.

How did they do it?

Due to the renovation activities, the two store company building was completely vacant. So-called hybrid technique, a combination of real fire and simulated fire, was being used to rule out any risk of damaging the building. After all, the property still had to be fully taken in use by their new residents! A tactical set up of the training materials resulted in a successful exercise, without any damage.

Inside, Phoenix Silkflames and firelight spots were used to create a realistic flame image. Though, where there’s fire, there’s smoke! For a significant amount of smoke, a couple of Stratus smoke generators were set up to fill the building in no time. The Vesta extinguishing trainers on the roof certainly resulted in some impressive looking flames. The flames could be seen far and wide, along with a significant amount of smoke. Therefore, the staging was so frighteningly realistic, that the emergency service number was repeatedly called.

Theatre technology

FireWare finds its origins in the technical theatre industry. Research showed that effects and techniques from the theatre world, after a few minor adjustments, make a significant improvement in the training environment for emergency response teams. The solutions of FireWare distinguish in terms of realism and help emergency response team members to become and stay professionally skilled!

Still hot and happening

The staging at FireWare still spreads like wildfire. Regularly, the “disaster brokerage company” gets requests by phone how the staging was done. Especially the flame image from inside is labelled as impressive.

Do you want to stage a realistic large-scale fire as well? Be sure to have the right equipment and knowledge in house to make it happen. Should it be bigger and is the scenario more complicated? It may be a good idea to outsource the staging of the exercise. The FireWare team has extensive experience and a large package of staging tools to create a realistic training environment in virtually any situation. The scope of FireWare, and its dealers, is also limited solely to staging. The trainer always provides the training, the running of the exercise and the evaluation. FireWare only helps with a bit of imaging.
