Last November, a large-scale fire drill took place in a brand-new building at Sydvestjysk Sygehus hospital in Esbjerg, Denmark. FireWare was part of the staging team, which was commissioned by the hospital to create a challenging multidisciplinary scenario. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The simulation took place one week before handover of the new building. The purpose of the exercise was to test whether the escape plan worked as expected, and whether employees were able to perform their tasks and exercise their authority. In collaboration with our Danish distributor Optisafe<\/a>, we were responsible for the staging of the fire.<\/p>\n

Four fire locations<\/h2>\n

In the hospital, fires were started at four separate locations by a crazy pyromaniac. For the simulated fires, a combination of simulated flame, training smoke, sound, smells and light effects was used, without causing any damage to the sensitive medical equipment. All setups were controlled 100% remotely.<\/p>\n

The fires pushed the emergency services crews to their limits. Not only did they have to deal with the immediate hazards, but the immobility of sick and impaired victims was a significant element of the scenario. Cameras were installed at key positions so the progress of the drill could be monitored and recorded. This enabled a proper evaluation to be performed.<\/p>\n
